On a side note, how much of a difference have you seen between a non-profiled HDR and K3-VM ink? And how compatible would you say the various colours are with each other? The last question comes from how CONE states that it's just two blacks - Matte and Photo - which are HD and the rest are the same. I'm just pointing it to anyone who may not have an R2880/R3000 but was looking to extract ink for another printer - ie buy R2880 cartridges to fill a 3880 one.

I keep pushing the fact to extract Epson OEM large format ink, refill, and save a ton of money!!!! It is so simple to extract OEM ink and refill the P600 refill cartridges in a few minutes. Those would cost me about $10K if I purchased Epson OEM P600 cartridges. I also spent about $600 for Epson OEM large format cartridges to extract ink and that will give me about 35 sets of 9 cartridges/set for the P600. The P600 was designed for the next generation of HDR inks after the K3-VM ink set but with my custom ICC profiles there is zero print differences with the K3-VM inks verses the P600 OEM HDR inks. If you read some of my more current posts you will see that I run the K3-VM inks in my R2880, R3000 and P600. Yes, that is true but I posted that info so others reading your post know what printers have the K3 and K3-VM ink sets. Those cartridges are too small to extract from but you can certainly use a refillable system for them. I do find it interesting that given the number of printers out there, the number of prints produced, and the large variations of images printed that there seems to be certain consistency of what colours are in high demand vs what colours are in extremely low demand.įor example, it seems pretty darn consistent that MK, C and VM are in low demand while others like LLK, LK, VLM, and LC go for higher prices.ĭoes anyone have a complete list of Ultrachrome K3-VM printers?Īnd of course, the plain Ultrachrome K3 versions of the above as well - ie 3800, 4800, 7800/9800. The Light Black and Light Light Black go for about $150.

I just looked and there are many PK, MK, C, LC, M, LC, Y 700 mL cartridges for approximately $100 or less. It’s an excellent strategy though the number of k3 or k3+ cartridges have become increasingly challenging to locate and they too have increased in price. That ink cost me about $600 in total, the 35 sets in new retail R3000/P600 cartridges would cost close to $10K!!!! I have approximately 35 complete R3000/P600 sets worth of Epson OEM VM K3 ink for extraction. A 700 mL cart is about $140 so that is 20 cents per mL. Now a 110mL is about $50, but still only 50 cents per mL than the $1 you are buying now. 2-3 years ago a light light black 110mL cartridge cost about $10, 220mL about $15. The Ebay prices have jumped a lot in the last year. I have been doing this for many years now. It may be time to buy yourself a set of refillable cartridges and extract ink from Epson OEM large format cartridges (110, 220, 350, 700 mL) purchased on Ebay.
